I wish all the runners running Boston Marathon tomorrow good luck. More than half the field is new runners. As the last corral crosses the starting line, the women, men and wheelchair winners have cross the finish line. It will be a long day for the volunteers.
All those new runners, here are some tips to have a successful race:
- Rest, Rest, Rest
- Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
- Don’t overwhelmed yourself with distance of 26 miles 385 yards. Break it into 5-6 mile segments which is easier for your head game. Marathon running is half physical and half mental.
- Have fun!
- If you run all the hills do a dance for at the top of Heartbreak Hill.
- When you cross the finish line do a dance for me.
The last time I ran Boston was 2001. I was not sure I was going to run because of freak accident 3 days before the race. I did run because I rested, ice, elevate and hydrate. I did run all the hills including Heartbreak hill which I dance at the top. At the finish, I danced again knowing I completed with full gusto.
Go have fun and run knowing that no one can take us down because we are strong!
