When I run on the roads and trails, my music is my mind.
The past couple of weeks news, made all our heads spin with many emotions. But today’s run, I couldn’t stop thinking about the senseless Las Vegas shooting.
My warm-up typically I run down hill checking out calmness of the lake and fall foliage appearing on Powwow hill. Then as I run through downtown to Powwow River Rail Trail, many residents are saying hi to me. My mind is calm keeping my heart rate down with the friendliness of our small town.
As I start river trail with my intervals, I let my rage out for victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Why kill innocent people enjoying a good time. Then comes the recovery between intervals with more friendly hello including the dogs out for their walk.
Next interval, I ask the question to myself why our political leaders cannot agree on anything to stop this violence. Is it the right time to talk about this subject? YES! When our emotions fresh in our mind.
During my cool down after 4 sets of intervals, I realized I am lucky for what I have and where I live. The weekend before, our little town hosted a Country Music Festival with the big names as Las Vegas but had no problems. I know our town, Amesbury, is praying for all in Las Vegas. Americans are strong, which we will get through this as with Boston Marathon bombings. Pray for Peace!
